Jesus' last command to his disciples was "go and make disciples." Unfortunately, the followers of Jesus have not continued to obey his clear command. The “Great Commission” has become The “Great Omission.” Over the years the Church has drifted its focus to a variety of other attractive causes and concerns: establishing airtight theological doctrines and divisive denominational distinctives, creating converts to Christianity, concentrating on numbers of baptisms, producing institutional leaders and church members, participating in the latest church growth techniques, developing multiple social programs, expansion of church facilities, enhancing worship services to appeal to the previously unchurched, and even engaging in planting new churches.
While the above list may consist of admirable ministry endeavors, they are not what Jesus has mandated his Church to consider as her priority. The authors of the New Testament reveal that following Jesus as his disciple is required for everyone who claims to believe in him. All who are called to salvation are also called to follow Jesus as his disciple. The heart of the Church’s gospel mandate throughout the world is the revolutionary and transforming movement of making disciples of all people groups. Therefore, our desire is to join Jesus in his mission of mobilizing an intentional movement of disciple makers in every possible context.
